President’s Day weekend proved to be another strong one at the box office. In its second weekend in theaters,Safe House, an action thriller starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, climbed past last weekend’s victor The Vow and topped the box office chart.
A successful, wealthy businessman, Wesley Deeds (Tyler Perry) has always done what's expected of him, whether it's assuming the helm of his father's company, tolerating his brother's misbehavior at the office or planning to marry his beautiful but restless fiancee, Natalie (Gabrielle Union). But Wesley is jolted out of his predictable routine when he meets Lindsey (Thandie Newton), a down-on-her-luck single mother who works as a cleaning person in his office building.
Fans of Stieg Larsson's original novel may have noticed that David Fincher's adaptation of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" made a few changes to the story, although more in terms of what was left out than what was stuck in. That's because any adaptation of a book of this length is going to need a bit of streamlining unless you want to opt for the recent trend of Hollywood mitosis that's splitting everything up into an infinite series of Part 1s and Part 2s.
Walt Disney Pictures announced today that "The Avengers" will be converted to 3-D for its May 4, 2012 release.
